Getting a new 360... Do all have FALCON?

Im after a new 360 after mine borked it for the 2nd time, cant be bothered with sending it back for a refurbed one with no warranty so debating going for an elite or the arcade pack.

So to try & clarify do all packs now have the new cooling, quieter dvd & hdmi port? or is it just luck of the draw?

Hmmmm I just got a new Arcade pack which was made 10/10/2007 and isn't falcon.

Has the old style heat sink and the 3 round things with copper wire wrapped around them standing up (which was the old style motherboards) from what the xbox 360 forum said.

Reading this makes me glad i held out,

do you reckon within 6months time all new x360s will be at least falcon? and sorted?

Luck of the draw, I walked into a shop looking for a premium, Nearly ended up with a Non HDMI version, Specify when buying is your best bet. "I want a premium with HDMI"

I got a replacement premium last week. The HDMI version. I have had to hover my power supply in the air off the carpet, seen as this console was still crashing. Since hovering the power supply however (and putting rubber things under the console), I'm not getting crashes. Touch wood. very poor crappy design.
How can I tell if this new unit has a falcon chipset. I'm guessing it hasent thought, seen as it was made towards the end of july 2007...

I was getting one this weekend, any tips as to what to look out for to at least increase the possibility of gett one with the "possibly" better cooling!?

Another stupid thing, is it better on its side or on it end!?

Or will it manage to **** itself one way or the other?

I think that the Halo 3 consoles all do. Without opening it I don't think you can tell.

But ... I don't see how having a dead bird lying inside the case of your 360 is going to make it any better for reliability. :D

Unless you have to stand the console up for any reason (deskspace, etc) I'd keep it on the side as it's better for airflow and it voids the possiblity of it 'falling over' which has happened to a few people I know. Also as a tip make sure you give the unit space at the back and you should be fine.

Dang, dont think they are gonna let me do that before buying it.

Ill take my chances, could end up waiting for forever.

Its got plenty of space where its going, so it will be on it side in the open with plenty of air flow (might help ya never know)

My 360 has just died for the second time :( found a website where users have submitted details of their consoles, do a google for "360 drive database" should bring it up. From what I've read the current ideal is a falcon chip and benq dvd drive.

The highest probability is consoles made by the FDOU team since AFAIK no falcons have beed produced by the CSON team. Lot 0737 and above, the details of which are on a sticker on the outside of the box apparently the later the manufacturing date the better. That said there are still a lot of machines on shelves with the old chip and really loud hitachi drives, luck of the draw really.

When I've some money together I think I'll be emailing OCUK to see whats on the boxes they have.

I read the above too before buying mine. I checked the box before I bought, it was made on 10/10/07 by team FDOU and is lot 0749 yet is not Falcon.

Its not luck of the draw, get the lot numbers off the xbox forums and ask the people in the shop to check (as it says on the back of the box) According to the forums there are NO Elite falcons yet - the second there are I will be getting one definitely.

The falcons are cooler, quieter and use a lot less energy. A review site did an article last week 65nm compared to 90nm and when the 65nm was playing a game it still used less power than the 90nm sitting idle on the dashboard which I found astonishing!

They won't be any quieter, microsoft won't change the fans or the DVD drive just becuase it runs cooler. All that will happen is the fans won't keep spinning up as much.

Which forum are you reading? It's been confirmed yesterday that a few people now have Elite Falcons with BENQ drives.

Lot 741, Build date 11th October 2007, team FDOU.

Xbox forums - sorry I posted this yesterday. I personally don't check them but I had a mate check them every hour of everyday until he got his Falcon. If this is true about the elite falcons - I'm going to have to start looking around as I'm REALLY after one.

Were they only spotted in the US?
