Hiya.

I had to sell my MSI 970 last month to fund my travel costs to a new job (money tight and all that) however payday soon hurrah. So should I get another MSI 970 which was enough for my needs, or is there something round the corner?

The rumors are that AMD will be releasing the 3xx series in about 3 or 4 months and it is sounding VERY promising so far. But then again its just rumors at the moment. It comes down to how patient you're feeling really, the MSI 970 is a very solid card.

Q2 the earliest. This means April - if you can work with your CPU's integrated graphics processor unit until then, then it's worth waiting :)

Otherwise, wait for some promotions on a 970 and get that.

Dont touch the 970. Look at the thread above. Vram issues, less rop than advertised and many other hidden "features". Get a 290x or wait for new 3xx series

I read the PCPER article and if you read it properly right at the end they still recommend the 970.

There are no VRAM issues. Problem is the card was not marketed with the correct spec or portraryed correctly how it works. So people are up in arms because they believe they have been sold an inferior card to what they expected and its usually the people who think as much VRAM as possible is necessary for gaming.

There is nothing wrong with it. Its still a very good card. I had a single 970 and it ate games at 1080p and 1440p. I have two 970 SLI and game at 4k and it plays fine.

If you can wait then I would just to see what AMD hit back with then your choice is wider. 970's will still be around for a while yet.
