at home, you?
ok so, heres the low down

intel q9550 @2.8
4gb ddr2 800mhz
foxconn digitallife ela

only problem is im on a standard cooler

i only know the basics of overclocking, i.e, increasing fsb, iv had my cpu to 3.2 stable a while ago, so any help would be appreciated.

There's a very good overclocking guide at the top of this subforum. If you get stuck after reading that, post again with a more specific issue and I'm sure people will help you :)

That should OC fine. Quads run hot though so you're going to need a better cooler. Drop £30 or so on an Akasa Venom and you'll be good to go. The multiplier is locked, so set the memory and FSB at 1:1 and gradually increase until unstable, at which point you should slowly start increasing the vCore.

You can flog the rig in parts and buy yourself a treat :)

Or have it as a backup rig.

I've got my 9550 @ 3.8 and it works a charm :)

Q9550s clock well, but I can understand you don't want the hassle. They fetch about £120 second hand, so sell it with the rest of your old components and it may pay for a good chunk of that new build.

iv got an insurance claim coming through from a car crash, i will be buying all my bits so iv got the new rig, then sell the old one once thats built, i cant be doing without a comp for more than a few hours lol
