getting a product label/logo designed - where to begin? plus tips

i'm currently in the process of creating a product and i now need to start dealing with the packaging design. i have skills in photoshop but not enough to create a professional looking label for my products.

what i need is logo design, as well as a the labels to go on the products.

how would i go about looking for someone to do this? what would be an expected price? i have a good idea of what i'd want but imagine this could be better left to the pro's to get on with.

also anyone got any experience in this? any tips when thinking about what to put on labels?
