Should have a 40gb PS3 this week, comes with RFOM and 2 blue rays.

Any recommendations for an HDMI lead, or are they all much the same? I'll be using the strange side HDMI on my Sammy TV, will a standard HDMI lead be secure in that, or can you get 90° one?

Any other essentials? Will probably be used mainly for blue ray, as a media centre, with the odd bit of gaming on the side. :)

All HDMi cables are pretty much the same, no difference in picture quality at all. Theres plenty of decent ones around the net for under a tenner. Dont know of any 90 degree ones, maybe a HDMI switcher could be used to make use of the connections at the back of the set.

If you want to play online I would think getting a headset would be essential.

Nah, nothing else I can think of that you need.

That's what made me choose the PS3 over the Xbox in the end, bar the HDMI cable it comes with everything you need i.e. hard drive, wireless internet, wireless controller that you can charge using the PS3.

Remote control for it if you are going to use it as a media centre. Easy than using the controller to pause films etc.

I have a Harmony 885, so will be looking into getting a cheap IR remote control so I can pinch the IR adaptor off it!

I would be carefull not to use too cheap a HDMI cable. I had a problem with a cheap one a while back where I would lose picture and have to unplug and replug it into either TV or PS3 to get picture back on again. Bought a mid range one for about £10'ish and haven't had a problem since.

I've just ordered 3 2m ones from a highly recommended site, £6.99 each for HDMI v1.3a, free delivery too, and a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied, don't think I can go wrong. :D

As a compliment to the gaming side, the Eye Toy can be pretty good fun, especially if you have family / friends / young kids coming round as stuff like Mesmerize, Tori-Emaki & Aqua Vita can be good entertainment / distraction. It can also take your photo for games like Burnout Paradise.
