Got a bit carried away and brought a Vive from ebay....

My current rig is bellow and meets spec but wanted to know what upgrade options I should be considering (its the graphics card I know...)

Current Rig

4GB EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H - Z97X-UD3H Motherboard

Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core Retail

Crucial CT512M550SSD1 512GB M550 SATA 6Gb

HyperX 16 GB 1600 MHz CL9 DDR3 HyperX Beast Desktop Memory Kit (4 x 4GB)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

600W EVGA 600B 80PLUS Bronze Power Supply
--------

My original plan before VR was to get a another gtx 970 and SLI, but I seem to remember reading that either my particular version of the GTX or my MOBO doesn't support SLI. And I'd also potential need a new PSU. If I can SLI would it be worth it?

Price wise a 1060 would line up with what I paid for my 970, but would that really be an upgrade a should I really be thinking of a 1070 for VR.

Normal Gaming is on a HD TV so I don't need to go above 1080p.

thanks

A 1060 will be fine but if you can stretch a 1070 is nice to have.

I've tried my Vive on both rigs in my signature on multiple games and both gave a great experience without any issues.

The 1070 allows some supersampling which is very nice to have, plus it will have longer legs as of course VR is only going to get more GPU intensive.

Edit to add, I'd try the 970 out first too, especially if overclocked, as you might be able to get by with it for a while, let the wallet recover from buying the Vive :D

I just ran the Vive checker and got a score of 7.8, so perhaps you're right!

I run a GTX 970 with quite a big OC and score 8.7 in the VR checker. The GTX 970 does OK in VR but once you start trying to push the settings and super sampling it's just not got enough grunt.

Some games are better than others for example I can run 1.3SS on The Blu & Job Sim but anything above 1.1 and low to medium settings in Project Cars and Raw data are unplayable.

I was pretty happy with my GTX970 until I saw what difference SS makes! The problem is for me even with a 1070 I would be wanting to push even further so wishing for a 1080 or 1080Ti when it comes.

I would love to see what Vive was like with Max Super sampling and settings, I doubt there are many rigs capable yet!
