To have an easy life and to stop being constantly bothered when she wants to browse ebay, I have decided to get a modem/router doodad and do away with using one machine as a gateway for another.
One of these sounds about right:
Linksys AG241
I have a usb modem I am currently using which will be replaced by the router, but I am concerned with the issue of CABLE / ADSL differences.
Based on this am I going to have an easy time of it or will I have to contact my isp to determine what kind of service under the 'broadband' label I currently enjoy? (Pipex by the way).

Adslchecker.bt.com tells me the following:When you’re buying hardware (especially routers), you need to beware of the distinction between hardware claiming to be for “ADSL”, and hardware claiming to be for “DSL/cable” or “broadband”. ADSL routers won’t work on cable, and cable routers won’t work on ADSL (without an additional, expensive, modem).
For Telephone Number 0116******* on Exchange LEICESTER CENTRAL
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 5.5Mbps up to 8Mbps.
