Getting Alleyway Closed Down...Advice?

Same kinda question as the Annoying Neighbours topic...

There is an alleyway at the end of our road, and it leads into the woods and then onto an estate.
The neighbours round here have been trying to get the alleyway closed down for 2 years now but to no joy.

We have had several break-ins on our road and they have all been close to the alleyway, we also get 100-200 kids walk through our road before and after school. It isn't exactly a short cut so I don't know why they go this way, but as my house is on the corner which over-looks the alleyway, we get stones, airosole (Spelt wrong I know) cans, anything to hand thrown at our doors and windows.
We have also had our front doors opened by youths while we have been in the house. At 7pm, you should feel you have to lock your front door, but I'll be sat in the front room watching TV, next thing I know is the door buzzer is going off because the door has been opened. I rush to the door and there are about 5 or 6 lads running down the alleyway. This has happened 4 times in the past few months. They do it to several other neighbours. I think the door buzzer scares them off but I don't want to take the chance.

I have considered CCTV but why should I have to pay out for CCTV? Having the alleyway closed would save so many problems as there would be no need for the youths to walk through our road.

What I'm trying to find out is what can I do?

I have spoken to the Police and they said phone the Council, I phoned the Council and they said speak to the Neighbourhood Wardens department. I spoke to them and they said note down when things occur. They have 2 years worth of stuff from other neighbours, what more do they want???
I said OK fair enough, when my window gets put through I will note it down and wait until it happens again. They said it won't come to that, how do they know?

What other steps can I take?

Thanks

so people are going through your house ?

No, they try the front door to see if anyone is in, the door opens, our buzzer goes off and they run off.
My neighbour said they have seen people trying our side gate a few months ago, so im a little concerned. People always walk down the top of the road, and run through the alley.

place claymores down the alleyway....

thats what I do on COD...

Hmmm, not a bad idea...

Get a door that locks automatically from the outside? I thought most doors did that now... Who leaves their front door unlocked!

Read my mind, or rig the door with some water, custard etc, so when they open it, it coats them.

Personally i'd get a paintball or a pellet gun and shoot them.

i thought the exact same. though it would have the police around in an instant to bollock you and not the kids i bet.

Dunno what the hell that neighbourhood wardens thing is, but we're in the process of having an alley closed next my house. Was quick and painless, we went to the council, they asked for the 4 houses immediately connected to the alley to have their solicitors get in touch to ensure they were all agreed on not wanting they alleyway and then said one person had to buy the land for the hefty sum of £1, we're now just waiting for all that paperwork and stuff to go through so whoever bought it can start fencing it off.

Had we have been thrown a flat no like your council had done, dunno what we would have done however. Is there no legal grounds for challenging the council on it? either way with them stonewalling looks like whatever you do will end up being at your expense.

Aye, Yale lock is your friend :p

Can you put a fence up? It's difficult to imagine what the layout is like :)

Could just get video and photo evidence before you start having your fun, therefore, it's your right to kick them off your property, aka. Shoot the crap out of them.

And then get done for taking pics of the kids? not sure how well that would go down for him tbh

A yale lock should do it.

You could try what my Auntie's ex-marine husband did when youths were constatly kicking the front fence in. Sit outside in a gas mask in the rain on a deck chair with a baseball bat for 6 hours whilst polishing off a bottle of vodka :D

They haven't had problems since. hehe.

I live in Carlisle and local council have closed off a lot of back alleys and have provided reisdents with keys. They now take pride in the back ally and has become an extension of their back garden and somewhere safe for their kids to play. before hand they were a mess and the usual undisirables using them.

It is really not your right to shoot the crap out of them :P The police would be having words.

What is wrong with that, if you didn't want to be near a school should have thought about it before buying.

Lock your front door. They probably know it is left open which is why they try.

If you want to do something get cctv that way you can build up evidence. In the meantime make sure everyone in you streets reports every little thing to the local police station, again this builds up a file that it is a problem area and can mean police/council will do somethign about it. My old house we had loads of cars broken into. everyone kept reporting it and eventual cops put trap cars out and arrested the few people who were likely responsible for nearly all the break ins.

Like most council stuff you get a lot further if you know what the law is. So it might be worth contacting CAB or a solicitor to find out your legal options.
