Getting an iPhone 5 swapped due to battery life?

Hi guys,

I'm getting to the end of my tether with my iPhone 5. I bought it last Christmas and I've never been impressed with the battery life. I have tried every little trick to improve the life of the battery but it does very little and considering I pay £30 a month it's ridiculous I have to change so many settings anyway.

Just now the phone turned off with 10% remaining. I have to take a USB cable whenever I leave the house knowing by lunch time my battery will be below 40%. This is with very little usage, browsing Facebook/Chrome, maybe play a game and I can see the % dropping as I use it.

I will never get another iPhone after this unless it is actually my phone that's dodgy.

Do you think they will replace it with this info or do I need to do some benchmarking?!

My nearest store is over an hour away so don't want a wasted trip, I presume they would tell me on the phone what they intend to do in the shop?

They will run some diagnostic software on it and determine if there are any apps that could be affecting the phone. If there are any apps they would tell you to delete them and come back if the battery life is still poor.

That was my experience anyway.

I don't really understand why you consider that paying £30 a month for your contract should have any bearing on the life of the phone's battery?

No..I'm paying £30 a month for a phone I can only use half of its features due to having to turn them off. Location services off, search off, 3G off, WIFI off, if I need them I have to go and turn them on. I thought that would have been obvious.

This way sir ---> http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18531450

I did mention battery life and flakey 3G/wireless connection when I first arrived at the genius bar.

The chap in the store ran some diagnostic software and it came back as a faulty battery, he then said no problem we can change the battery, I said do you think that will also cure the 3G/wireless issues too, he then asked if i'd prefer a replacement phone.....GOOD LUCK :)

Thanks mate.

They said there is a problem with my battery and will swap it/the phone on Saturday.

Let's hope it's better when I have a new one!

I got my iphone 5 replaced yesterday with a new one. Was out in 15mins. They didnt even run a diagnostic.

Happy days :)

Well a bit miffed to say the least, drove for over an hour to my nearest Apple store for a guy to test the battery and tell me it's fine and that it's probably the software that#s an issue. He told me to a DFU complete reinstall of the iOS. He was baffled why Apple Care couldn't of told me this when I first logged the issue, what a waste of time and petrol.

Also, I'm going to lose everything messages, contacts, notes doing this reinstall as he told me not to restore as I will just be restoring remnants that are causing the battery drain.

I went to my nearest Apple store today for the same reason, as well as poor signal, charging connection problems and occasional slowness.

I was told the same thing, lost all my old messages, my contacts were stored on the cloud so they are back. He cleaned my connector out and it seems better.

Will see how it goes but I can't see a software issue giving me poor signal. What I mean by poor signal is my girlfriend has an iPhone 5 also on EE and when we are out a lot of the time she will have 3G or LTE and I'll only have GPRS.

That's strange. I haven't used Cloud but I will turn it on to use, thanks for the reminder.

Is it only contacts I can upload?

Contacts, Safari Bookmarks, Notes, Messages, Camera Roll and account settings IIRC.

Apple also provide email, calendar etc if you want it. It's similar to the old .Mac/MobileMe services with iOS things bolted on and the really useful OS X stuff removed.

Yeah exactly, will Cloud only work with new Notes? I noticed logging into iCloud on my PC that my contacts were visible but no notes until I created one?

My battery life seemed much better yesterday.

Only problem is my photos, I copied them all to a folder, it wouldn't let me drag and drop them back on the the iPhone for some reason, so I used iTunes to sync it with the folder, but now it created 2 folders on the phone with all of them in and it won't let me delete any photos.

Any idea of another way to do it so they go back into my camera roll?

I don't think there is I'm afraid!

Just an update, did a DFU restore and the battery seems waaaay better. I'm annoyed I've lost things as I like hoarding stuff on my phone but I reckon I'm going to sell this soon anyway as I'm bored of Apple and am going to try something new.
