Hi All,

I have pretty much decided i'm getting the iPhone now, thanks mainly to the increased mins and text, however I have a couple of questions before I sign up to an 18 month contract ...

1) I hear the bluetooth is limited to only hands-free? really?
2) Do I really have to sync the iPhone to put music on? can't I just manually update my music?
3) Could I just buy an iPhone from Apple and Jailbreak it? or do I have to get one from eBay?
4) How do you rate o2? I have heard from some of my friends that o2 is shocking? (I'm on orange atm)

Think thats about it, thanks in advance :D

1 - yes, only to the headset, you can't sent or receive music or photos
2 - You'll have to use itunes to get your music in it
3 - Apple won't sell you an iphone, in the UK O2 have the distribution rights. You could get one from ebay and jailbreak it i suppose but then you need your own sim contract.
4 - Depends from user to user, some even say 3 is good.

1. Yes, hands free only.

2. As of iTunes 7.6 and iPhone 1.1.3 you can organise your songs manually by dragging and dropping within iTunes.

3. If you want to jailbreak your iPhone there is one for 1.1.3 so it doesn't matter where you buy your iPhone from. (Raymond Lin, Apple DO sell the iPhone in the UK. The three retailers you can get an iPhone from are O2, The Carphone Warehouse, and Apple Stores.)

4. That's subjective. I've had no problems with them so far (And had my iPhone since launch day), and I like that if you have a technical problem they put you straight through to a tech support person from Apple. If I'd have one complaint it's that their website is a bit rubbish.

I have 2 questions.

1st:
The iPhone has a lot of "push" type features, such as the weather and email.

If you were to jailbreak an iPhone, and use it on a non-iphone O2 contract, it would mean that those services would eat data bandwidth from whichever data bolt on or data package you have?

2nd:
Presumably, visual voicemail will not work with non iPhone O2 contracts?

Another new question...

5) How does The Cloud wifi work? do i have to ask for a passkey or anything? or does it just know to let iPhones on the network?

cheers

That's not correct.

You can buy an iPhone from any of the 02, Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores (including the online stores of each..).

Any phone bought with the 1.1.2 firmware can be jailbreaked, so you only need your own SIM if you wish to use your own PAYG or Contract tariff.

The trick is to buy ASAP to avoid the newer stock with 1.1.3 preloaded.

Cavallino and MonkieMann:

Firstly, yes, if you don't have an O2 iPhone contract (Or some other unlimited data bolt on for your jailbroken phone with non iPhone contract), weather, stocks, email and browsing will cost you money. The amount will be dependent on your plan.

Secondly, the first time you connect to a Cloud wifi hotspot you're asked for your O2 mobile phone number. You'll never be asked again. I'm assuming they add your iPhone's MAC address to some sort of database.

EVH: 1.1.3 is jailbroken already. :)
