Getting back into BF2

OK....I used to play BF2 a lot......but then, thanks to one thing and another (moving jobs & home + pc died and had to fix it etc etc etc) I havent played for probably the best part of a year.

I was just wondering if there's anything I should know - how has the game changed?

I've reinstalled it, and applied the latest patch (1.4, yeah?)

Are there any addons that people use now, that I should get tpo have a wide range of servers to play on, for example?

Or can I just retreive my old user id and carry on as before?

Just retrieve your old user name and carry on and welcome back to BF2.
Nothing more than Vanilla BF2 is needed and a friendly chap with Special forces add on. He plays using your username for 20 mins you play after and get all the extra unlocks. It can be got cheap though if you prefer and there are a few servers running it.
Look out for the Infantry only servers as they have put a great new twist to the game. Jihalabad is a superb full on infantry battle with ridges to be held and lossed and plenty of full on action amongst the streets and jittys.
