Who can you contact about slow internet.....

I live in an area with offices, a business park, around 1,000 houses/flats and a university but I have 40mb maximum so is there no one I can speak to and get higher speed?

Have you looked at the Sam Knows website for a run down of what's available to you?

Then there's the possibility of 4g broadband too.

Who's your internet provider?

I'm with Vodafone now but, I've been with plusnet and talk talk over the last 4 yrs and all advertise 67mb but the open reach guys said at best I'll get 44mb and that is what I get.

You need to hammer the Virgin website with enquiries about your postcode, I’m told they go by the number of enquiries for a given postcode area for deciding where to cable or not.

Worked for me, Virgin cabled my estate two years back and I’m now on a gigabit connection compared to the 35 Mbps I could previously get via the BT / Openreach network.

40 meg?
Stop whining! Before i got a 4G router my home internet was 4 meg down if i was lucky
40 meg?You are spoiled;):D

I have lived with 20-30mb for the past decade. It might be worth looking to see if you have any startups doing their own thing. We have had a company called Youfibre rolling out broadband all over Lincolnshire and other areas of the country as well. Now I have 1Gig up and down for £45 a month.

Please can we stop suggesting the SamKnows checker to people? It's probably a decade out of date at this point, has references to LLU that aren't relevant unless you can only get ADSL, and only checks at a postcode level rather than an address level. The Ofcom checker is probably more relevant at this point.

Sorry :(

We recently had our internet upgraded to Fibre to the premises due to slow internet in my area via the Gigabit voucher scheme https://gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk/

To be eligible for the scheme you need to have existing broadband speeds that are less than 100Mbps we use to get between 5 Mbps and about 0.1 upload. Be warned though it is a slow process and you will need to get buy in from your neighbours. All in all it took about about 18 months from initial enquires to installation.

Openreach. You can directly get a quote on how much it would be to fibre up your area (seriously). Some people then work with their neighbours on a community scheme to fund the works.

Read something recently that more and more people are looking at internet speed when moving.

Move, wait or pay for fibre to be ran to your house (at least several thousand pounds) are basically your options.

While 40mb isn’t particularly fast, it’s really not particularly slow either.

The cost of installation in my street was just over £20k fortunately this was covered by enough residents signing up for the voucher scheme. Only just though, we did have to do a quite a few mail drops to get enough people signed up.

That assumes the OP is ‘rural’, commercially unviable and BT are not just going to build it anyway in due course.

Business park, 1000 houses and a university doesn’t sound particularly rural or somewhere that is commercially unviable for a fibre roll out.

Agree. Sounds odd but I guess there will be outlier cases.

Virgin media is an option. Mobile Internet is another option.

It would help to know the name of the area you're in.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com type your details in to there and that will tell you all the stats for your current openreach line.

https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband type your post code in there to see if your area is in the scope of Openreach full fibre planning.

Also check on other sites to see if there any alt nets coming to your area, like CityFibre, or even Hyperoptic.

Although the homepage says Rural I would not class where I am as particularly rural, although I guess the requirements may have changed since we applied, where it now classes slow internet as 100Mbs it was 10 during our process.
