My friend is trying to connect to her house mates wireless network. The network is dispalyed when you click on "view wireless networks" however once connected after a few min it kicks her off again. Why would this be? It's not the signal strength either.

any ideas?

mac filtering?

i kinda thought it could be that. Mainly because it'd take a short time to realise the mac address was different THEN boot off the user.

Strange, might be the MAC, but mine at home and work they wont let you connect at all in the first place unless your MAC is already on there

What speed wireless does the computer support? Sometimes a wireless Router only allows 802.11g devices to connect. So if your friend has a 802.1b devices the router may kick you off.

Also does the wireless your mate have simply totally disconnect from their network or is the ip address not being registered?

well it must be registered right if it is able to connect. its not like it says 'acquiring network ip address' or something. She connects and has access for a short time then booted off:(

Hmm, The only other thing I can think of is the router overloading. How many other computers are using the router? If there are more than 5 then that sometimes can be a problem depending on the make and model of the router.
