Getting cheaper insurance

Hi all,

I have just purchased my first bike and am currently trying to sort insurance. My cheapest quote is Currently £600 with Bennets on an MT-07. I'm 27, live in a decent post code and passed my DAS last year with no experience since then.

My question is; Does adding named riders with lots of experience lower premiums on bikes as it does with cars? When I was younger I used to put my parents on my policy as named drivers and it used to lower it by £100. Does the same thing happen with bike insurance?

Just to be clear, this is completely legal as I am the primary driver, and the others are named.

Thanks!

From my experience, no it won't lower your premium. Maybe slightly if whoever you put onto the policy has had their bike license for many years.

What's your annual mileage set to?

Seems very high. I'm not in a great postcode and even straight after passing my insurance was under £200 with 10k miles, although for an SV rather than an MT.

Try getting a quote from Wicked Quotes, they seem to come back with sensible prices for most.

Try Uswitch and Confused, play around with the options on insurance like your career, where the bike is kept (ekhem... garage). The other insurer I can recommend is GoSkippy, the were the cheapest for my 1st year.

Might be to do with the bike as well. I'd imagine the MT07 is really popular with newly passed riders because of the price (popular bikes can be expensive to insure).

Make sure you don't overvalue it, that makes a big difference with bikes. When my Speed Triple went from £10k down to £9k I saved a load.

I paid £250 for my Hornet's first year of insurance 5 years ago when I was newly passed at 21. Garaged, 1 year NCB (from my 125).

Have you tried social only rather than commuting as well? Try lower the mileage - as long as you don't put a really low figure like 1k, they don't ask for your current mileage so they'll never know.
