Made a really nice stew over Christmas with chestnuts. But struggling to find anything but overpriced small packs. Ideally get a decent amount from somewhere.

Anywhere around where you can get such things? Never really got food from anywhere but supermarkets before

Don't buy Chinese chestnuts even if available they are awful. Italian or French are so so much nicer!

Love a chestnut me.

Interesting, I was in Chinatown in Bangkok last week and there were chestnut sellers everywhere, didn't try any though
No problem with who is cooking them :-)

Just that over the last few years every single Chineese chestnut has had a mealy texture and a musty taste. Unlike the smooth, buttery, just slightly sweet of savoury of Italian/French.

Having said that, I'm sure it's the sub-species of tree and the climate that matters. We had a sweet chestnut tree when I grew up and on a good year they were fab.
