Getting client timezone

I have found this javascript that gets the client timezone but I can't undersyand the vague instructions.

Could someone explain how I use that to get the client timezone into a php variable?

You can't directly as PHP is executing on the server side and JavaScript on the client. You would need to pass the timezone via ajax or a page request to the PHP script.

As Rob mentioned, either Ajax the JS timezone otherwise you could store the timezone in a cookie and then access that via PHP.
Alternatively you could perhaps do something with GeoIP.
