I have installed leopard on my Ibook, but had to install Panther and Tiger to get there.
This has eaten 18gig of HD space. Is there a way to get some of this back, as it is only a 30 gig drive.

It is indeed possible as I have done it on my macbook. However I cannot remember the programs I used but if you search for threads by me then you will find the ones people recommended.

What I did was remove the various languages but kept the drivers. Be careful what you remove though as I had some issues with my keyboard after doing it.

Did you customise your install when you're doing leopard?
That can easily save you 5GB worth... (removing all but your printers drivers and language...)

I never did a custom install, but new to mac myself.
Would I have to go back and start again, or can I remove stuff now.

I think you mean Monolingual? Shame it's only for Tiger.

Here's a couple of google help to remove the printers and language files:
How To
Printers Remove

What I don't understand is, why did you have to upgrade Panther then Tiger then Leopard, instead of straight install of Leopard with the Disc, or am I missing something?

Install Leopard only, customise it (just look carefully as you're going through the "Wizard"/ step by step install process. It's a little button on the left bottom of the window that says "Customise")

Gonna start from scratch, panther just the files, nothing else, same with tiger, then with leopard will install printer drivers and other stuff
