Getting edge to work on iphone 1.1.3

Hi Folks,

I have followed the faq about getting edge working on my iphone but haven't had any luck.

I am on o2 pay as you go with the web bolt on. Has anyone had any success with setting up edge on pay as you go on 1.1.3? I have the edge menu in the general settings but it just won't connect.

As far as I'm aware, O2 don't allow Pay-as-you-go customers access to Edge. You should only get GPRS speeds

^ What he said, you can't get EDGE on a PAYG sim.

iPhone doesn't seem to want to work with GPRS on 1.1.3. Still looking for a solution.

Oh well, that's £7.50 wasted on this bolt on. At least it's just a one off payment and not anything I have to keep paying.

I presume you're referring to O2 specifically with this statement? As GPRS works just fine on my T-Mob sim

Is there a way to tell if you are using EDGE or GPRS?
I have it configured for my Vodafone sim, but don't know what one it is using? Also i have unlimited internet, should i call Vodafone to see if EDGE data is included?

Sorry if that is really n00bish questions.

EDGE will feel a lot faster than GPRS, also, when the 'E' comes up in the top bar it means you are connected, if it's blank then it is GPRS.

EDGE isnt fast but GPRS is a joke.

Vodafone don't have an EDGE network.

I get the E symbol on my iphone? Is that to say that I still can't connect because I am on PAYG?

If it gives you the EDGE signal then you should be able to use it.

You still get the 'E' symbol on jailbroken PAYG iPhones. But you can't connect to it, it's an error.

EDGE doesn't work on any PAYG sims.

Ok, so I've given up on gettign edge for now, but should I still be able to browse the internet through the phone but not on the edge network?

I followed the settings to set up edge in the faq but will I need to do something different to get it through the non edge network

On PAYG you will connect using GPRS which is pretty slow.

1.1.3 doesn't seem to work with GPRS at the moment with PAYG o2 sims.

Sounds like if you are on 02 PAYG, get out of there!
