Hi

I'm trying to help a customer at work get faster broadband, he is wanting to work from home but currently his broadband is not fast enough to allow it, he would need to connect via a VPN, he was on a 4G trail a while back and that worked well but the 4G trail ended and now he's left with nothing but a 0.3Mb/s connection as the exchange is 7 miles away! I spoke to superfast Cornwall for them and got nowhere (as normal) they told me he is in the 5% that won't be getting fiber by the end of the year (when the project down here ends) they offered to set up a satellite connection but his work won't allow that as it's insecure (and a bit rubbish imo) and they offered fibre on demand which almost made me pass out at the cost (and made me think if they can do that why can't they just rig up normal fibre after all thats what they were given money to do), we thought about a decent draytek router with a 3G dongle stuck in it but he says the mobile signal is terrible although he is going to give a dongle a friend has lent him a try but I don't think the VPN will work great from my experience. Have I missed anything because he was a really nice chap and a want to help him out if I can, it seems a shame that with everything going on down here the last few years some poor sap is going to be left on snailnet.

Get and post router stats but if he is 7 miles from the exchange I'm not surprised he's only getting 0.3. Advise he moves IMO. No amount of SNR tweaking or custom router firmware can defy the laws of physics.

If he really wants to work from home, he might well have to suck it up and get FTTPoD if that's his only choice. To some people that would be a fantastic opportunity!

It could be a very worth while future investment, fantastic speeds are to be had with FTTPoD.
