Getting fed up with HDD noise in a Akasa Mirage 62.

One of my drives is especially noisy (seagate 300GB 7200.8). It's really annoying, I DONT want to buy a HDD caddie to put in the 5.25" area, but is there ANY other way to have them mounted in the lower area with reduced noise?

I have some rubber grommets from a 80mm fan I got years ago, but it doesn't look like they will fit - has anyone attempted to fit grommits between the case's hdd bay and the drive or what other things have you done to recude HDD noise inside the mirage/eclipse 62?

- Seems like a poor design on akasa's side, not to have included a bay which has anti vibration mounts!

Yes I know its my hard drive, thats why I said "One of my hard drives". I have 3 Seagates, the 2 500GB .9's are fine but the older .8 is rather noisy when seeking.

When I said "must be your HDD", I meant your HDD is probably on its way out, and not down to Akasa's design of the Eclipse

This is one of the - points of the Akasa eclipse and PC7+, and most other alu cases for that matter. The rubber gromet idea wont be very effective I'm afraid. Plus it'll be very hard to get them between the hdd and drive cage.

Also caddys don't really work all that well anyway for reducing resonation, they do however cut down airborne noise a fair bit.

Your best bet would be to bungee mod the drives in the 5.25" bays, or if they wont all fit remove the hdd bay altogether and rest the hdds on the bottom of your case on soft rubber strips. This works very well, i have paxmat on the bottom of my case and it really stops resonation if i put a hdd onto it.

I have now made my own hdd bay that combines both bungee vibration removal plus caddy for airborne noise. Its worked a treat but is a lot of work to get total silence tbh.

I like that idea. Does OCUK sell that sort of elastic?

My HDD is not on its "way out", its had this loud noise ever since I moved to the '62 chassis. I still think rubber mounts would have helped a little :(

Search for 3mm shock cord on ebay, i got 2 meters for £1.50 delivered which is enough to do 2 hdds. I think you'll also be able to get it from most sewing shops, not that Ive ever seen a sewing shop that i can remember lol.

nice mod Mark

Thanks :), I made a thread about it a while ago on here.
