I put this in GD because its for general people more than sports and fitness

After watching almost all episodes of Extreme male beauty I thought about whether the majority of people get fit to look good. If you havent watched it, its presented by Tim Shaw, one of the main reasons for watching it as it had me, mum and dad crying with laughter.

At the end of the 8 weeks of trying numerous ways to get fit and look better he said he preferred how he was before. The Results show he looks considerably healthier after the 8 weeks. Personally i feel he didnt need to lose the beard or body hair.

One of the main reasons i try and exercise is to make myself feel healthy. After a good run or eating decent food I feel so much better than a weekend on the beers and pizza. Sure I enjoy drinking but I dont like the feeling of putting on weight.

To anyone that doesnt exercise, dont you feel unhealthy or unfit sitting around doing nothing? For everyone else that exercises do you do it to look good, I always though the main reason to exercise it to be and feel healthy.

edit - i know this is a bit strong for saturday night and i have noticed the now drinking thread below :) (im out next weekend)

He looks a lot better, minus the silly tan and stupid waxing, can't believe his wife didn't like his more toned body.

Do you think his wife was just saying he looked better before for tv? If not maybe he should go and get someone how appreciates his new fitter look!

opps, forgot it was fri instead of sat

to the OP, go read up on BDD. A LOT of it applies to many many many men who goto the gym

Tim did say at the end that he would continue to exercise more and eat healthily.

I always feel better after a run but I don't do it often enough for it to make any real difference, so I'm generally unhealthy.

I think the main thing is to not get too carried away. The more you focus on improving your body, the more paranoid you're going to get about certain aspects which will cause you to be self conscious.

I certainly feel much better after exercising, and after a few days without exercise I do start to feel 'cooped up' but despite this I'm usually to busy/lazy to actually do anything. :( yay, 100 posts :)

Tbh hardly toned looking body, looks more scrawny, suppose bi/tri size isn't to bad but the rest of his body looks that of a 15 year olds.

Its obvious he looks far better after the results, looks like he's been on a sunbed too lol. Most of his problems could have been cured with a shave though. As for exercise I do it to look good and feel good, my definition of looking good might be different from other people's though =/.

I personally dislike doing exercise, and don't seem to have any problem sitting in one place for a few weeks. I'm lucky enough not to be particular fat either.

I really like being fit and healthy!

I don't particulalry like drinking Diet coke instead of normal coke on the odd occassion I do have pop, or some dinners are mind numbingly boring, but I feel great afterwards even if its all in my head, thats enough for me!

The primary driving force for many, many people is vanity. At least initially. For most, it's not until they've been training for a while that they realise just how wonderful it is to be healthy, and feel the progress of increasing fitness.

I started out because I was chubby and unhealthy, and I wanted a better body. Now 7 years down the line, it's an integral part of my life :)

Ant
