Getting fit

I started out because I was chubby and unhealthy, and I wanted a better body. Now 7 years down the line, it's an integral part of my life :)

I always leave it too late for getting fit, i want to look good for the summer, but from christmas onwards i give my body crap, now its been hot for days now and i feel like crap because i left it too late for the excercise. by the time i sort my new mountain bike out, it will be winter again, and the the beers and fast food come out - back to square 1

Its never too late to start, and you dont need to train for summer :)

Eating crap is self-perpetuating, and it's real tough once you start. Toughest part is breaking that cycle.

It's a lifestyle thing bud, and you don't have to be a saint. Any SA reg will tell you it's a huge passion of mine, and nutrition is an obsession for me. All that said, I had fish and chips at the weekend, and got absolutely hammered and had a kebab, it was ****ing quality too ;)

It's about balance and gradually tweaking your lifestyle. Start now, and by NEXT summer, you'll look fantastic. Start thinking in months, not weeks :D

The primary driving force for many, many people is vanity. At least initially. For most, it's not until they've been training for a while that they realise just how wonderful it is to be healthy, and feel the progress of increasing fitness.

I have to say I agree, I started for pretty much the same reason. I smoked and drank my head of, had never been fit, ever, always been a lazy git. But I got tired of feeling and looking like crap, so I thought I'd try and get myself in shape and do a few weeks (LOL the naivety) of working out, 4 years on it's become an obsession, I love it.

Also, I have to thank GordyR, his posts and the thread changed my life, and set me on the correct course, I can't thank him enough.

Amen brother :p

I am currently working throught the Army's 12 week basic training routine that recruits do on joining. It is great, a really different routine to the usual 3 day split + cardio gym stuff everyone does.

You kind of get in a comfort zone in the gym and its nice to feel exhausted at the end of a workout again.

Happy to post the plan if anyone wants it...

I'd like a look for interest sake mate :)

Ill post it when i get home. It starts of surprisingly easy then zooms up to rather intense! Im currently on week 3 and its starting to stretch me, im probably of average fitness after having a 12 month break from training due to a naughty back injury.

No weights involved whatsoever either....All pushups/situps/ holding a position for a minute etc. Just working muscles in a way that I guess in the gym we don't use them.

Suppose you dont have the luxury of a gym in a warzone....

Interestingly I've been dabbling in that sort of thing a lot lately (bodyweight and isometric contractions, stability etc) so it may well be of use :)

I seem to have the ability to lose weight fairly quickly and not put it back on currently. Will lose 2lbs a week when I'm gym+swimming 5 days a week. Hopefully do it for 3 more weeks or so and then I start doing lots of weights.

Had to postpone me getting abck into it yet again due to an injury and then exam period :(
