getting generals commander and conquer and zero hour to work on vista 64?

I don,t think you will get it to work tried for a few month then gave up and installed a partition of xp was a few years ago mind ;)
Still dont think there has been any update i had it on 4 cd,s that didnt play went black screen and crashed .
You might have better luck with the last decade pack my brother has it running on a q6600 and vista 32 and 1950 xtx .
Not to sure what the problem is there hasnt been a update for years and i thought it was down to multi cpu,s but but i have just put that theory out the window with my last comment :D

To get this working on Vista is simple:

1: Create a folder called: Save

2: Place this folder in:
WINDOWS DRIVE LETTER :\Users\%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data

3: Save the following text (edit resolution to suit your config) as a file called: options.ini

AntiAliasing = 5
BuildingOcclusion = yes
CampaignDifficulty = 0
DrawScrollAnchor =
DynamicLOD = no
ExtraAnimations = yes
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MaxParticleCount = 5000
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 1920 1200
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 97
SFXVolume = 87
ScrollFactor = 63
SendDelay = no
ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
ShowTrees = yes
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseCloudMap = yes
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = yes
VoiceVolume = 97

4: Place this file in:
WINDOWS DRIVE LETTER :\Users\%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data
Now generals should load up fine. For zh its exactly the same procedure except that you obviously change the path name to drop the save folder into.

I put it down to on Vista EA's install script does not do this for some reason. MS & EA support is a joke as both told me it would never ever work!!! I figured this out myself about 2 years ago and even posted a technical doc on how to do it on the MS Vista solutions centre website. This is all ok on 32 bit but should be fine on 64.

I never had any trouble myself :confused:. I installed it with the first decade pack though. Always run as admin since I use the hidden admin account and that's it.
Prolly messed up because you didn't run the setup as administrator or something, or simply first decade version is a bit better updated ?

Thanks give it a try tomorrow always wanted to get it working on vista ;)
well now windows 7
I know this is a long shot but is there anyway of setting the resolution
to 1920 1200 as well ?

I reinstalled stand alone Generals and Zero Hour the other day actually. Worked perfectly with no messing what so ever on Vista 64.

just snapped my generals disc taking it out the case:s
omg gay

LOL unlucky!

I seem to recall the original Generals disks were well dodgy, my mate's disintegrated in his drive, writing it off, and I think I read other cases of that happening online.

erm my zero hour is not right, when ive loaded up the main menu the background doesnt move, like none of nothing is moving at all. that a bad install or not? the game works fine tho:D

mine did that within the first year...and they can **** off if they think i would pay for it again.

i just downloaded the images of the disks and install from them when i need to.

if you find the view a bit too zoomed in then there is a way of zooming much further out....you will need a program called finalbig to do it
