Getting Gmail to play nice with Mail.app

I have recently got a MacBook Air and I am trying to get Gmail to play nice with the inbuilt Mail.app.

I've managed to get it so that it maps:
Inbox -> Inbox
Sent Messages -> Sent
Drafts -> Drafts
Bin -> Trash
Spam -> Junk

My only problem now is to get labels working properly. The only think I can think to do is to create smart mailboxes for each label I have, but that means I can't set a label.

Any ideas?

If you sync with imap it should do the folders / labels, make sure you are not using pop

I agree. Go into the gmail settings on the web version of Gmail, and enable IMAP.

Then try setting it up again on your Mac, it should automatically bring through all your folders.

As above IMAP is the way to go, it just maps to all the folders on Gmail. That said I use Sparrow for email these days, it's got lovely Gmail integration.
