Hey guys.

Been reading a lot of thread on people overclocking there i7 920's to 4GHz and over. Ive been trying since i purchased mine and i am unable to reach 4Ghz. Max i can take it is 3.8 with a Vcore of 3.5. Is that to high or low? Anyone able to give me advice on what i should be adjusting in the bios to get this cpu to 4GHz. Hoping some one with the same specs as mine who has managed to get it to that speed can advise me on what to do? :)

Thanks ;D

I'm not an expert on i7 as I've yet to take the plunge but the first thing that strikes me is you say you have tried a vcore of 3.5 but these chips have a vcore of 1.3 so that has me confused unless it means 1.35 and the motherboard does the vcore adjustments in a strange way - other than that it looks more like a memory voltage setting to me.

Speaking of the memory you have 1066 ddr which is good for 1333 bus so might be struggling to reach the bus speeds you are going for (~1600).

Also your sig does not mention if your chip is a D0 stepping, if it's C0 then 3.8 is actually a pretty good overclock - the 4g+ speeds are mainly being hit by people with a D0 chip and/or extreme cooling.

I'm having similar problems overclocking the 920 D0. I wish there was a guide/tutorial on which voltages needs to be changed. The only ones I have played with is CPU VID, CPU VTT and PLL.

I can easily hit 4GHz but it's not Prime stable.

Is your i7 a C0? Mine won't boot at 4ghz; you can usually get faster clocks with HT off, but I prefer to leave it on.

My CPU is at this on a p6t deluxe. Here are my settings:

bclk 190
cpu pll 1.88
cpu volt: 1.306
QPI/DRAM: 1.35

I could probably get the voltages lower but I cant be bothered. Hope i helped

Thanks dmarcisz. Will play around a bit more when I get home tonight and try your settings. I haven't overclocked since the days of AMD Athlon XP so I'm a complete newb with this system.
