Hi, I just revieved the MSI StarCam 370i, which has a built in mic. The webcam itself is set up and functioning, but I cannot get any sound from it. In the sounds-panel the available recording devices are only the sound card, no webcam mic. I've checked all the volume properties etc, and there is no bloated sound card drivers, just the windows standard sort of thing.

Though I installed the drivers, there is still "USB Camera" in the device manager... could that be the mic unrecognised? I don't believe it was there before... If it is would anyone know how to make it work as all the drivers are already installed.

Would it maybe base itself off another standard driver which I don't have? (I ripped some stuff out of my windows install disk)

Any help appreciated, as always :)

If you check your sound config in the control panel you might be able to choose an alternate recording device.

At the moment it's asking to choose an input from the onboard/sound card.

EDIT:Yeah

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio 'tab' > Change the recording device.

That should do the trick if the option is there. ;)

Thanks, unfortunately as I said there is no entry for the webcams microphone in that selection window, even though it is operating correctly in all other manners. I believe that it *should* be in this window, however it is not.

Windows 2ksp4 pro if it's at all relevent.

Have you tried running the audio/video wizard in MSN Messenger.

Anyone else i know who has a mic on the webcam never had to do anything it just worked.

So that device in the device manager is it shown with an exclamation mark?..

If thats the case, right click, hit uninstall, once its gone, hit the scan for hardware changes.

Doesnt always work that way, but has done before in the past with a number of devices.
