Couple of questions before I disappear off on my hols next week.
I have just realised my phone has not got a modem in like my old Nokia 6210 so I'll have no way of accessing the net.

1. Do OcUK sell such devices to plug in the laptop either via USB or PCMCIA < preferred.

2 Is there an online map showing various "coverage areas" from different mobile providers so I can buy the most suitable.
Im going to be in a pretty remote area so I guess I need to choose carefully the best signal for any chance of getting one.
I'm going to be off the coast of Sri-Lanka/India

3. could you recommend a product..

I think your best bet is a local internet cafe, unless you are staying in a hotel that has acccess. You can use a mobile broadband USB modem on a UK contract but I checked if it was with 3mobile then you are looking at charges of £6.00 per Mb:eek:

Having spent over a year living in India your odds of getting reception in remote areas is pretty small, though it's improving data access will be a problem. 3G does not exist in India yet so you'll be reliant on GPRS equivalent access. Your best bet would be to by a USB data-card when you're there or just go to internet cafes.

Get a local sim card and cheap wap phone. GPRS access in places like India is dirt cheap.

I think a net café is a better solution than a dubious GPRS connection.

Alternatively... how long are you on holiday for? Maybe you could do without the internet for a while? Surprisingly easy when you're keeping busy and enjoying yourself.

Yes, in and about the islands of the Maldives.

Got to find something to do whilst off gassing..
Can't drink alcohol really.
