Hi all,

My work computer is locked down so that I cannot change wallpaper and display properties or get into control panel, or right click etc etc.

I presume this is done via group policy?

Anyways, i have access to be the local administrator, (log in as administrator on the pc locally rather than have network admin access).

Is there anything i can do locally that will enable me to get into control panel and change display settings and enable right click or anything like that?

Cheers,

Edward

You could log in as a local admin and add your domain account to the local administrator group, this will give you admin privilages on the local machine.
Would not recommend doing this unless your network admin gives you the ok to do so, you could end up being disciplined/dismissed depending on your companies policy.

I agree with the guy above, you'll get found out and I don't think your company will take it likely? Surely it's classed as hacking?

If you log onto a domain it could be a domain level policy which is applied when you log onto your machine via Active Directory. Therefore you can't edit it locally.

If its just a general network wide group policy, but they are happy for you to login locally and change things, you could install ultramon.

That will allow you to change wallpapers and screensavers. Until of course policy kicks in and changes it back.

Like the others said though, that kind of group policy is usually done for a reason - namely stopping you installing apps, smutty wallpapers and dodgy virus filled screensavers, so it's your own fault if you get into trouble doing any of the suggestions in this thread.

Our school tried to stop anyone changing the desktop background by not allowing anyone access to Display properites but forgot that it's easy enough to right click on the picture you want and click "Set as background" :D

If it is locked down, then live with it. If you have a need to change your display settings then call your helpdesk who I'm sure will be happy to assist you.
If you have a computer at home, then abuse it to your hearts content.

Yes, there are loads of ways round it, because each has its own policy.

IIRC, if you are blocked from getting into the control panel, you can go into help, ,look up "control panel" - you usually find a shortcut from within help. That used to get you in no problem. Think this was Windows 2000...
