Power metal is like hair metal with added gay and cheese, although I can tolerate some of it.
How rude! *points back at his comment about corrupting new metalheads*
Without checking, I seem to recall Docaroo put a Wiki link to Power Metal in his original post - might be worth a read.

Some other options on the girly vocals front are Within Temptation and Epica. From your choices, I'd suggest The Silent Force from Within Temptation.

Definitely go with the Myspace idea.....but be ready to splash out - I used to buy an album here and there, but after I got the Myspace bug I've spread out to loads more bands and spend way more on music than I used to. You can have that running in one browser, a metal forum in another and some online shops in a few more to get some prices. Then just sit back and wait for the postie while you listen to the four you have already :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_(band)
One of the most legendary bands in Black Metal ^^ and they don't actually look like clowns like most Black Metal bands.

Carpathian Forest
Bathory
1349
Satyricon

All awesome in their own right, Bathory, Carpathian and Emperor are my favourite from them.

Actually got a clip from an Emperor song here .

This guy is going to have a Metal overload! Probably the best way I can think of for someone to disover metal is go to concerts and, even better, festivals.

I believe Download are starting to get more, and more metal acts. There is also Bloodstock Open Air and Bloodstock Indoors which are both pure metal festivals.

Going to festival introduces you not only to lots and lots of different bands, but also lots and lots of other metalheads!

Alternatively you can just look at the lineup of a recent festival and make it a point to listen to one track from every band listed. You'll get through quite a lot.

However you go about it, just take your time. If you find you love Power Metal stay with it until bored your you discover something else. Having mates who are also metal fans is also a great help. Most of the people I know are metal and I usually can't go a few days without someone going "here give these guys a listen!". :D

I would give you a list of my own recommendations but I would probably be here all day. So I am only going to give you two, as they would probably be considered my favourite.

Evergrey

The Project Hate

I pray that Download will have Rammstein, Slipknot and Rage Against The Machine headlining next year.

That'd be awesome.

I'm gonna try go to Wacken next year too, either that or Tuska Open Air, definately going to Download.

You should be careful about going to Wacken. You may end up going back every year! :D

Went for the first time in 2005 and basically intend to go every year for the rest of its life.

I know Maiden are confirmed for next years Wacken, if I can get the money alltogether gonna go for it me thinks, hopefully some friends will be able to make it too. :D

It is such a great festival and the people who live in the village are also awesome! Most of the people will have some sort of food or drink stall outside their house. The pub/restaurant is also good :D

The atmosphere on the campsites is amazing. We usually go down on the Tuesday - a few days before the music even starts. It's a festival all of its own at the campsite.

Sounds decent, I like the idea that the village is so close too.

Black Dragon is by Luca Turilli with his solo project :P All file sharing networks have it as Rhapsody though so easy mistake to make but still! :D

Even if you are in the campsite furthest from one of the entrances it will only take you about 10 mins to walk it. The main road in the village is maybe a mile long, probably less so nothing is more than half an hour away.

There are also bierkinders - kids with bikes and little trailers who will carry your beer to the campsite entrance! It is such a brilliant place.

Only word of warning is make sure you have plenty of cash with you, as the queues for the cash machines are MASSIVE. There are very secure lockers so you don't have to carry it all with you.

hello and welcome to a thread about metal bands :)

I would say give Tool a try, You can see as they progressed as a band their sound changes from Opiate where its metal to the amazing sounds of lateralus / 10,000 Days. If your after good lyrics it will not disappoint as Maynard has one of the best voices around just now. Albums you should give a try would be Ænima and lateralus which i think are two of their best ones but they are all pretty good.

Other albums to try would be:
Fear Factory - Demanufature
SOAD - Steal This Album!
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake
Arch enemy - Black Earth
Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Death Roll

Meh Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet? Both sucked royally!

Hope the next album returns to the roots like Something Wild / Hatebreeder / Follow The Reaper.

Ashes Of The Wake is alright, nowhere near as good as Sacrament and New American Gospel.
