What like Iron Maiden? They are still around as are quite a few of the 80's metal bands.

Besides Metal is still as strong as ever.

true, metal is as strong as ever, but its just not the same, or maybe its me being an old fart

Oh noes. I'm talking about one of the worlds greatest Metal festivals in a thread about metal bands as a follow up to my advice of going to metal festivals to help discover new bands. [Deep breath]. :)

I think your right, most of the time now its just me picking up older stuff that i may have missed, Metals pretty rubbish at the moment, crap like A7X. I thought Trivium were going to be the start of a revitalization but then the crusade was utter cack. Still some good stuff around but it tends to be older bands, nothing good thats from new bands for a while now. Best metal albums of the last couple of years for me have to be Nevermore, Maiden and Mastodon.

Whats wrong with Avenged Sevenfold!? I personally think they are great, one of my favorite bands. :)

i dont mind some of there music, but they just act like complete cocks, i saw them at download and i've never so intensely disliked a band so quickly.

Yeah i've got a few out of that list, not really a slayer fan, and NIN, Satyricon, Dream Theater and Megadeth were all fairly poor compared to the bands previous efforts. Not heard of I, what are they like?

Nine Inch Nails
Soundgarden
Faith No More
Stone Temple Pilots
Soundgarden
Alice In Chains
Pearl Jam
The Black Crowes

A little easier on the ears (ie: they wont bleed) for someone that wants to try out a new genre. Yes i know most of the above bands no longer exist, but their albums do. Grunge metal F.T.W! :D :p

once again I'd like to stress.. Manowar are NOT actually Power Metal - I've never understood why they are painted with the PM brush because they are really only Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and are REALLY REALLY gay... honestly... just gay! There's no need for Manowar in the world...

Infact the only Manowar song I'd ever listen to is this:

Kings of Metal

and only because that it's sooo unbelievably gay that it's funny... the so bad it's good column :)

Soundgarden

As pigf@armer has said, not 'purely' a metal band but easily my favourite band and i'll second the recommendation :) . And for anyone into metal wanting to checkout Soundgarden - Bad Motor Finger would be a great place to start.

Types of Power Metal

American/classic power metal
Extreme power metal
Folk-power metal
Prog-power metal
Symphonic power metal
Thrash-power metal
Epic metal

What a load of rubbish.
Why can't we just have rock like in the old days?

Without a doubt the worst band I have heard this year, possible forever infact, id rather listen to Girls Aloud.

Theres NO groove or melody to it, its just bangbangbangbangbangbangbang boring tbh.
