Was looking at steam deals last night and saw this going for a tenner. I have heard lots of people saying its a great game. I have not really played any of the X games. Tried reunion a few years ago but gave up as I didn't have a clue what the hell i was doing the controlls seemed very confusing for a mouse and keyboard player.

Is it worth picking this up and giving X another go ? Is this one slightly easier to get along with. I read the blurb and it said mouse controls were improved for this version

Sadly if you found reunion a bit too much you will find TC a similar experience albeit with a easier user interface.

I have both and tc was easier to control and to navigate the menus, thats about it...it was still incredibly complicated underneath.

As someone who didnt play any previous X games id say give it a go. It is still very complex but there is enough story at the begining to introduce you to most of the concepts of the game. By the time you are a fair bit into the story you have a good bunch of ships and a good grasp of the game. Deffo needs a fair bit of patience.

what put me off last time was not so much the complexity of the game itself as I like very indepth games that require you to do more than point and shoot. The main killer was the interface and the controls. I didn't have a manual so trying to work out what buttons did what was very frustrating. If the interface is easier in TC then I will have a lot more will to get into the complexity of the game play itself

Spacebar is your friend, it switches mouse look on and off, which makes general navigation a complete doddle, until someone pointed that out to me on these forusm, i wondered how i could possibly react in time to shoot anything

There is a manual with X3TC, if you're getting it on Steam just right click the game in the Library and "View Player Manual".

Being a manly man I of course ignored the manual and jumped straight into the game, starting as Humble Merchant. 15 minutes later I quit and fired up the manual.
Now racked up 130+ hours over two characters (started a Terran Defender who has now become my main char).

One of the better £11's I've spent.
