I've got an e5300 on a budget asus board P5KPL-AM SE, it's been overclocked to 3.1ghz for years and runs nice and stable but i was given an old pc a while back which has an e2160 and a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 Rev2 motherboard, both have kingston hyperX PC2-8500 DDR2, im just wondering if its worth using the gigabyte board and the e5300 to get a bit more?

Unless i can get a good 500mghz its probably not worth bothering with, also not worth doing if its pushing it too much, id like nice easy overclock if possible.

I always felt that there wasn't much to gain after 3.6 ghz with my e8400, but it didnt stop me getting to 4.2 !!

I'd say go for it if all fails you got a spare board and wolfdale pentiums are cheap if you ever wanted to buy another one, the great thing about e5300 etc is their high multi's.

If it costs nothing of course it's worth it. :D My E5200 did 3.5 quite easily on my P35C-DS3R, I have a Q6600 in that rig now though.
