Hi folks, I've been using this router now for a few weeks and it works OK. I now need to run another PC and a laptop wirelessly from it (Using WG11 USB stick). I have tried them in the same room and they work fine (can access all webpages) however, when the PC is returned to where it needs to stay (i.e) upstairs, I get a very weak signal and even though I can sometimes connect, IE won't load anything.

What's my solution? I hear access points need ethernet cables direct to the router, which isn't great. How about antenna or range extenders? I'm really at a loss here so all help is welcome, regards,

Adam

I bought a high gain antenna off the bay. It's about 30cm long and screws into the router, boosted the signal in my house upstairs from 50% to 90%.

If you're the Blue Peter type (no nothing to do with what you call your cat) then Parabolic's may help but the bigger ariel solution is probably your best bet. Could always do a survey with net stumbler etc and see what the signals like in other parts of the room. Failing that it's power line or run another AP. Any way you can move the router ?

Sadly the router needs to stay put downstairs due to proximity to the phone line, same goes for the other PC, it's in someone's room and we don't really have space to have it elsewhere =/.

So am I correct in my assumptions that APs need a direct ethernet line to the router? That wouldn't be a great deal of use either in that case.

So if you reckon a bigger antenna is my best bet is there one you guys would be able to recommed for top performance with my router? Cost isn't such an issue I just want this sorted ASAP.

If you're unable to link one here for any reason please e-mail me - [email protected]

Cheers Gaverick and Avalon for the help thus far,

Adam.
