Ok i'm a bit of a newb what it comes to this.

right. I've got the standard yellow, white and red cables plugged into the TV, but i dont have anywhere to plug the green, blue and red cables. Basically i'm asking what sort of adaptor i'm going to need so that i can actually put those cables into the TV?

So first off is it possible to do this with the TV i'm using? If so, what adaptor am i looking for?

Thanks for any replies, Sainte :)

That TV should have component inputs, you should be able to set it up without needing to buy anything else.

Get rid of the scart connecter, find the component inputs and plug them in individually, you should be good to go then.

yeh i'm using it without the scart connector. Got the standard cables plugged into the side of the screen (colour coded), but there is no red/green/blue inputs anywhere that i can see.. (they are colour coded as well surely?) which is why i assumed i need a converter :(

just looked at a review of it on CNET and they said it has an HDMI input, but component video requires adaptor. So i guess i need to ask what adaptor i need then?

hmm got this off one site. it def has component connections

lol so confused right now. So i'm plugging the red, yellow and white cables into the SIDE of the tv (left side) (number3), so where should the other cables plug into according to that list?

connect the xbox using the vga adapter... means spending some extra cash i'm affraid as you dont get the cable as standard

That's the composite connection - ie worse quality than scart.

well scart is just a connector, it can carry whatever signal is wired up to it. If you connect a composite cable to a scart connector and plug it into the tv the picture quality will be no better than connecting composite directly to the composite in on your tv. If you bought an "advanced scart" lead then it should most likely be wired for RGB which is far better than composite. Personally I would plump for the vga cable.

Agreed, I use the VGA cable myself and the picture quality is great - I read somewhere that the Microsoft one is noticably better than third party ones.

Also just to clarify for OP:

** Audio connectionss **
Red + White = Audio (analogue)

Another option would be an digital connection, this is required for 5.1

** Video connections **
Yellow = Composite video (rubbish - only thing worse would be an "RF" lead that plugs in your TV arial socket, like the Mega Drive days).

SCART (Also carries audio) = RGB video (higher quality connection than the above by sending Red Green and Blue down the wire as separate signals - this is based on a proper RGB SCART lead, the one in the first picture you posted is only going to be as good as Composite as you plug the yellow cable into it)

Red + Green + Blue = Component (colour of the connectors not to be confused with RGB video, carries HD video)
