Hey guys, for whatever reason always had Nvidia cards, and now just about to get the single slot 5770 card for my shuttle as this is the best i can get with case and power limitations in my wee shuttle.

just looking on the drivers site, and i see they do a suite and then individual drivers, what do you guys do? im not gonna be overclocking or tweaking so would i bet better off getting just the display driver or the whole lot. i like to keep my system fairly minimal in regards to what loads at startup and software install on my SSD due to space limitations.

any advice welcome.

Considering you're a minimalist I'd just load the 10.4a's on there own without CCC.
Others may recommend a later driver for your particular card but i can only speak for myself after trying All the latest drivers on release & prefering the performance i get from the 10.4a's.

The CCC is the Catalyst Control Centre so Yes download just the Display driver. I should have said though that i use the CCC version as i like to increase my fans for when i am gaming & drop them whilst browsing.

The driver is a must, the CCC is'nt needed as such, but can come in handy to tweak settings. Like when connecting up other monitors/tv's and so on, but not necessarily needed for it to work.

Which version, id agree with FortyFive, 10.4 or below, i currently use 10.2 as i find it the best for my current set up.

cheers guys, so what is the issue with the latest ones?

I can only speak from my own rig but the HD5770 works just fine with 10.8. One of the problems with latter drivers is higher idle clocks when overclocking, this is to fix issues with screen flickering with people who have more then one screen but there's no flag on the software to tell the card to clock down if only one screen is attached which leads to more heat and a noiser fan.

Prefer the whole suite myself as I use CCC to raise and lower my fan speeds. I've stuck with 10.4 but only because they work great and I dont mess with what aint broke.:)

I stuck with 10.2 as it allows me to run my fan at 10%, the later ones only allowed min of 30%.

So just me being picky really, and as above they work for what i need, so i stuck with them, did test the newer ones, but eventually went back to 10.2

Not quite right there mate, 10.4 goes down to 20%.:)
