hello all.

Finally got my broadband. Got it hooked up via ethernet.

It is 3mb with 384kb upload. It has a contention ration (whatever that is) of 24:1

However Im getting extremely poor performance in Counter Strike Source.

I am getting a ping of 400, leading me to get kicked every 1min.

Do you have any ideas. Im using a linksys wireless router..

cheers

Your settings are completely wrong. Which ISP is this. The normal settings for UK ADSL is VC VPI 0, VCI 38...not LLC 8,35 and you should be using PPPoA

You line has interleaving on, it helps of dodgy lines and keeps them stable, although it makes you latency (aka ping) rise. Phone you ISP ask them to remove it if you want however line may become synced at a lower level or more unstable (ie dropping)

cheers thanks for the info.

This is really bugging me.

I cant play any steam games at all due to the bad ping.

On limewire however, My total downloads exceeds 300kbps.

:( I am useless @ this sort of thing.

p.s the model number of my thingy is WAG200G-Uk

The ping as i said is the interleaving

And the 300kbps figure is correct as you sync rate is below what is needed for downloading @ 3mb speeds as the figure needs to be on or above 3424kbs so it lowers it down to the 2.5mb level at the exchange end and therefore you will max out your connection @ 312.5 kbps

*Yes i didnt put the bits and bytes in correctly as cant remember which way round they go*

He must have a really really poor line for interleaving to generate that much latency. I lost about 10-20ms when getting it turned on.

**** I hope thats not the case.

Can I turn of interleaving myself?
