Getting my headset working with my soundcard

Hi everyone, I am wondering if there is a solution to a small issue I have.

Basically I use a Xonar D2X soundcard, which has these inputs...

This is fantastic with my 5.1 speakers. However my gaming headset uses it's own 7.1 USB soundcard, But I can remove this and use the 3.5mm jacks.

With my soundcard I cannot add my front panel connections to it as it does not allow that, so my front panel audio on my case is running from my motherboard sound. This headset has a 7.1 USB soundcard with it and I can use this or use the 3.5 mic and audio jacks.

However without unplugging my speakers and plugging in my headset to the soundcard constantly which is a pain with my pc case position is there a way to get this headset working from my soundcard? So I can have my speakers and headset plugged in together from my soundcard?

Is it as simple as say using a 3.5mm to SPDIF converter (IN) on my audio jack from my headset? So my audio is from the SPDIF and my mic jack is in the mic socket?

Sell the headset. Its cack. If you payed more than £100 for those Commanders you deserve to be shot.

Buy a proper pair of headphones, such as the HTF600 or CAL! or CAL2! or ATH-AD700/900X depending on your budget.

Save some money, have better headphones, use the D2X soundcard, profit.

I didn't pay more than £100 so I'm good! :D

However even with another headset it doesn't solve my issue. I won't be changing my soundcard anytime soon as I've not long got it.

Another headset would still want a mic and audio 3.5mm input to my soundcard. My speakers use the line in/front/side therefore the line in is obviously used. I can plug the mic in fine but I also want the audio from my soundcard to my headset without unplugging the speakers.

Hope that makes sense :)

To my knowledge, the D2X allows you to choose between onboard sound or itself, thereby allowing you to have both plugged in all the time but only one 'working. Of course that means either your speakers or your headset will not benefit from the soundcard.

SPDIF convertor could work, but Im not sure if it would impact the sound quality.

I would just use the USB soundcard provided with the Commander - assuming I understand you correctly and that your front audio panel does still work.

Yeah the front panel connections work, I just had a theory that the sound quality from my xonar D2X would be better than the USB soundcard included with the headset and running off my motherboard.

Thanks for the help :)

3.5mm splitter cables? But use them after an extension, so the splitter point is on your desk and just plug headphones in when you want them?
Don't your speakers have a headphone/mic jack anywhere on them? What are they?

Personally I use the old medusa box thing from back in the day, have mic in that, heaphones into the jack on my speakers.
