hi guys,

I've got an asus motherboard and I think I could alsa sound card driver installed in my fedora core 9.

I can see the volume button and it is all turned up but when I play some music on media player (can't remember name in Linux) nothing happens except it says - need mp3 decoder

I notice in the drop down menu it is currently set to Alsa HD or something like that.

just how do I even start to look into getting my sound to work in linux?

It is so frustrating

any help appreciated.

can you play a wav sound or an ogg? You may not be able to play mp3 until you install an mp3 decoder.... fedora people can tell you the command i'm sure.

I your mobo definately supported? You need to find out the sound chip and then search for compatibilty with linux. Then check the module is loaded etc. with lsmod

hi thanks for reply

I'm on that PC right now
don't have a wave file to hand but even utube vids don't display any sound even though I can see them playing

just typed in dmesg it gives this:
