Hello, used to be able to get this to work by pressing the AUX TV Audio button on the DVD remote. I can't figure out how to get it working now since we are using HDMI lead.

Few specs
TV - Samsung LE40
LG DVD player
V+ box

At the minute, i have V+ connected direct to TV via HDMI. Then the DVD player connected to the TV direct via scart.

If i plug the scart from V+ to DVD player i can get the TV sound to play through the surround sound, but obviously there is no video on the TV from DVD player as there is no connection between the two.

How can we solve this? Heres some connections info.

DVD player has
Scart output
Component output

V+ has
two scarts
Red and White audio out
Componant Video Out

I have this audio lead with red/white ends but not sure if i can use this as there doesn't seem to be any connection for it on the DVD player.

What i was thinking it, V+ to TV via HDMI, scart from V+ to DVD player (to carry the sound), then componant to TV (to carry the picture and sound)?

Help! Mom wants X-Factor through the speakers :p

Presumably the LG has an optical input? If so you can run an optical cable from the tv's opt out to it. This will pipe the audio from the HDMI through optical. You'll only get 2.0 Stereo (as with through the scart cable before) though. Unfortunately all-in-one cinema systems are not designed to output surround sound with anything but their built in players :(.

Alternatively, you might be able to use RCA between the two (red/white composite audio) in the same fashion.

By 2.0, do you mean it will only play thought 2 speakers? As im 99% sure my brothers playes through all 4 speakers in his room and he only uses a cheap scart lead.

Ill just check on this optical input on the DVD player.

It might play through all the speakers, but it won't be surround sound. It'll stereo upmixed usually to some form of Pro-Logic just so it comes through all the speakers.

A few players normally try to simulate 5.1 if selected, I know my parents system only has stereo input (cheapie from 5 years ago) and feeds the sound to all speakers.

It's a bit odd that the dvd player doesn't have the phono connection as that's normally where "aux" is fed in from. Any more details on the dvd player?

There is no optical input on the DVD player.

Everyone is 100% sure we could do this before we switched to Virgin Media without changing the cables. We would just press AUX on the remote and the TV sound would come through the speakers.

This is our DVD player - LHT550TB.

OK well the only way your going to be able to do it is through the dvd player. This means either:

V+ SCART -> LG DVD SCART -> TV . Same as before presumably.
V+ Component -> LG DVD Component -> TV. Better quality if it is indeed component (YPbPr) progressive and the dvd player doesnt mess around with it. You'd need the red/white from the v+ to the lg aswell with this setup.

OR!

V+ HDMI ->TV->Red/White OUTS (Most tv's have them) -> LG DVD.

I have: -

V+ > TV via HDMI lead. DVD to TV via Scart. Then i plugged my Red/White AV lead from DVD player to V+ box and its working :) The lead wouldn't work if i connected it from TV to DVD player.

It will work TV to DVD, but chances are you'll have to set what ins/outs are being sent on the tv settings. Also you need to make sure the RCA is in the OUT of the tv, not the IN.

This way, anything you plug in to the tv will be heard from the surround sound.
