Getting no sound from PC > TV with HDMI

Hey all,

So I've moved a spare HDTV into my bedroom recently. I have my desktop computer in my room aswell. I'm basically trying to hook up my computer to the HDTV via HDMI so I can watch media through the TV instead of my monitor.

However, after connecting the HDMI cable between the TV & computer, I get a picture but no sound comes through. I cannot figure how to fix this. I've tried messing around with the playback options on the computer but I don't see an option to playback sound through the TV instead of my computer speakers.

Any idea's how to fix this cause I know HDMI cables carry video & sound!

Should do, it's a modern GPU (GTX 460).

I've tested the VGA cable & audio cable and sound & picture comes through but that's not an option since the computer will be in the opposite corner of the room and I have a 5M HDMI cable to use.
 
The 460 does support sound over HDMI. It should just be a case of going into the control panel > Hardware & Sound > Manage Audio Devices and selecting Digital audio (HDMI).

Ok I tried that and for some reason my TV shows up..I tried this so many times yesterday and it wasn't there now it's randomly appeared wow haha, funny how some things just work themselves out.

Remember the audio device can be disabled within the Nvidia Control Panel, no doubt the reason why it didn't show before :)
 
Well it was working fine yesterday but today when I connect it up again the Sony TV doesn't appear in the sound settings. I've tried turning the TV off and reconnecting the cables but it's still not appearing.

Howcome it randomly works and then just stops? Any idea's?
 
I've had issues with my GTX460 connected to a Samsung TV via HDMI - mainly the screen going black for a few seconds whenever an application uses audio for the first time. Very annoying and haven't been able to find a solution. Starting to think maybe the GTX460 has some issues with audio :(
 
I had a quick Google and it seems you're not the only one experiencing problems with this card and sound over HDMI. Could be a driver issue, are you up to date?
 
i take it you have tried rigth clicking the icon on taskbar - playback devices - and enabled the hdmi option ?

with me its ati hdmi output
