When I first signed up to OCUK I was about 70 and came here full of confidence - I asked if someone could spec me a PC - Picked one -ordered bits and away I went - Worked first time.
So then I needed a backup PC but only wanted to spend £100 - Did it on £105.
Everything sailed along -any hiccups I fixed.
Now at age of 80 my backup PC hit me with BSOD and died. I looked at it and thought o dear. Kept turning it on hoping it had fixed itself but no chance.
So today after a few weeks I fired it up and took a good look at Bios and suddenly saw there was only CD showing on startup - No HDD so out it came -took side off unplugged everything -put it back together and bingo.
I am finding that as time goes by you start to loose confidence in yourself -It's not just the PC although they are the things I just can't get my head round -Putting them together is easy it's the workings that does me.
I put off jobs in case I mess up. I changed the two kitchen tap cartridges today and left myself a note last time saying where the Allen key is to take levers off -would it fit -I had only put note on wrong Allen key -After that it sailed along 20min to take both off and new ones back on and working..
It really is a bit worrying this loss of confidence in yourself. Mind you some of the stuff is physical - well out of my body range.
So Lads get it all done while you can.:)

Sorry mate we are child free. - If I have major problems I just go over the road to mate's lass - she is good at phones and PC's at 8/9 yr's old.
Failing that we have a old PC expert further down and he must be near 50.
As you get older it isn't what you know but who you know.

What is your career history @DXP55 ? My mother is only a few years older than you and struggles to use an iPad. You're doing ok, fellah. :)
Blue collar -Worked in rain and shine - The first works van I drove had a crash box. Only those that have driven one will know what I mean. But - When the ZX Spectrum (Still got it) came out I could see it was the future so went to night school but it was over my head. I was in my 40's
As a clay shooter in 80's I needed to see my score online so had one built by the company up norf - dial up net access - God wasn't that awfully slow.
Yes things have changed - at the moment I am getting the wife to take more notice so she can log into her bank instead of me doing it all the time. She now has a motive- My younger bro died a month ago and she realised it could have been me.

@DXP55 Well if nothing else you have motivated me to find the right spares and replace the kitchen tap cartridges. The drip has been getting worse but I kept putting it off :p.
Don't get motivated too much -About 4 yrs ago I had my head under the sink renewing pipes and putting isolator valves on and a new tap -The tap cartridges were done last year but we had a water metre fitted in July and copper dust got in the tap so the joints had a load of vasaline on from last time and I have got in habit of not wrenching thing up bar tight.
