Two years ago we bought a Z4 3.0 and love it but now we're going the completely opposite direction. As we're mostly motorway cruising these days plus the whole time we have had the Z4 it's not been thrashed, just used as a normal every day car, it seems a complete (although awesome) waste!

Having looked at various options of high mpg comfortable cars I come to everyone here to see what suggestions come up. So far (in random order)...

Golf bluemotion
Skoda Fabia VRS
Toyota auris hybrid
Good solid old merc
Honda Insight

I love cars and still want a Koenigsegg CCXR :) but right now we just want a really comfortable, easy to maintain high mpg cruise mobile!

haha, I can stop looking at the EcoMuppet cars then. :D I guess really we would want to do a swap with the Z4 money wise so around the £10k area.

ECO car we were thinking more along the lines of buying it, saving the money in fuel then selling it later on so really although it costs more because it's sold on eventually (hopefully not at a larger loss than other cars) we would save anyway.

I guess the mileage we do is around 13,000 a year. It's more that we don't do any mileage for a fortnight and then suddenly we drive half way across the country due to work. We both work from home so the car is normally only used to pop to the shops or a meeting every few days.

High spec interior and comfortable whilst being as light on the maintenance/fuel as possible are the main points.

Was loving the V70 D5 until the end of the video I was watching stated the mpg wasn't good, WAHHH! The S80 looks great though, have looked at a few video and will do some more research on it but it looks about perfect so far!

Volvo S60 D5 looks nice as well but I'll need to have a proper look. Any more suggestions?

Only 5 CCXRs?! Ah well, I'll have to just opt for my second choice of the classic Ferrari F40 instead, a smidge cheaper as well.

I know it's been a while but we went and test drove some of the suggestions and found the Volvo S60 was the best for us. We also really liked a Merc CLK 220 CDI but have decided against it as it's a bit more flash than we want.

We test drove an Audi A4 and a BMW 3 series but neither were as good overall for us. The Merc didn't even have cup holders, seriously - where am I supposed to put my McDonalds Latte man!? The BMW was nice enough but pretty clinical on the interior compared to the S60 which just felt like a mini living room.

So, the S60 wins right now and we're going to start looking for one to buy earlyish next year unless we come across something else in the meantime. They're cheaper as well so some money can go in the bank which is cool.

Is there anything specs wise that's worth making sure an S60 has when buying? Cheers for all the suggestions, we might have ended up with a EcoMuppet car without em. :D
