Getting out of TalkTalk contract?

I took up the 'free' broadband offer from TalkTalk about 4 months ago (I did know about there reputation for poor customer service and rubbish speeds, but thought I would risk it).

For 4 months I have had no real problems. The speed was probably not as fast as my previous provider, but nothing to complain about.

However for the past two weeks it has been getting slower and the last few days it has dropped to the amazing speed of about 10kbps (so slower than the those really old 28.8k modems).

Does anybody think I have the chance of getting out of my 18 month contract, on the basis that this is completely unfit for purpose?

Have you contacted them and given them an opportunity to try and rectify the issue? This should be the first thing you should do. You need to identify the reason for slow speeds, and determine whether it can be fixed (either by yourself, talk talk or BT) before you can really start looking at whether or not you can get out of it.

Yeah I contacted their support via email a few days ago, but from what I have read about their customer service I don't hold out much hope for a quick resolution.
