Do you know if it costs you to get a company to pay you for advertising their ad on your site.

Let's say I want to do what gametrailers do and place TV ads into their videos. So every time a user watches their videos and watches through the 15 second ads at the start and end of the game clips. Will say pepsi give me their ads for me to embed into my videos? Will it cost me, I don't see why it should cost me as it's like free promotion for them, if there TV ads can be seen by more people other than on the TV then there is every more chance of that user going out and buying one more can of pepsi that profits the pepsi brand.

okay that was dumb of me, advertising is a pretty expensive field. I wonder if any of you guys know how much each year gametrailers are paying the companies for their adverts to be embedded into their videos?

Erm, it's the other way round, companies pay GT to place their ads in the gametrailer videos.

Does this guy do any of his own research?

"anyone know of any free web hosting companies?"

"Just created a website, got some questions?"

"Anyone good with SEO? (Search Engine Optimisation)"

"how do google make their money?"

"anyone know of any free SEO tools?"

"How does youtube make their money?"

"Is it possible to make money this way, look inside plz?"

"Any sites I can use that can check the value of my website?"

To be fair in this instance I don't think it's completely dvdbunny's fault. Someone is his last thread said that he'd have to pay to display people's adverts for some bizarre reason. DVDbunny hardly ever replies to anyone in his own threads so started another.

EDIT: See

because it doesn't work like that. if you to embed tv adverts on your videos you have to pay the companies you are advertising for the adverts they provide.

It was always my understanding that companies pay you to advertise their ads in your videos not the other way round as someone posted on the thread. Which is why I changed my view and said that how much do game trailers pay the company to display ads.

So now my idea is possible then? How much do these companies pay game trailers for each advert watched?

Nobody here works for GT so we don't know. But it's generally enough to pay for the servers/bandwidth and make a profit.

Nobody is interested in putting adverts in any of your videos on your unknown website though - why would they be?

This.

You are going to have to come up with something very original to make any profit.

I have already come up with a original idea. It's been in my head for years and no ones done it. But now I want to bring it to life.

Is it up? Because companies can't advertise in your dreams. You need to show the ad agencies that's successful and already receiving a lot of hits.

Is it that story thing you posted a while back?

TBH unless you have a site getting millions of hits a day where companies will actively seek out your website to advertise on, advertising revenue will barely hit double figures.

What you seem to have forgotten is that, on the whole, having a good idea is not a get rich quick scheme. It takes lots of time and effort to develop it into something which people would pay for, or would attract worthwhile advertisers.

The first job is to have a website up and try to entice a loyal readership with the content and services you offer and then grow it from there.

If your idea really is as awesome and desireable as you keep rabbiting on about you'll want to get a professional company onboard to design you a professional site and marketing strategy. Having an amateurish site will put 90% of people off in the first instance.

tl;dr - you need to spend money to make money.
