hey all getting my ps3 delivered off this MM soon and have a few questions to ask

1. I hear the ps3 is region free for ps3 games, this true? (what about os2 and ps1 games is it region free for those)
2. Does it play most ps2 and ps1 games now, as we need firmware updates cos they decided to give us an inferioir console to the rest of the world?
3. They region locked for dvds/blu ray films?

thanks :)

1. what he said ^^
2. sorry to correct you but we are all getting the same console now. usa and jap consoles dont have the ps2 EE built in either. only the initial launch consoles did so that could get the software emulation up to scratch i guess.
3. dvd's - yes. bluray - so so. it depends on the film, most aren't. http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=50447 <-- check that list for up to date region encoding.

sorry to hiijack, but i need to ask...the network connectivity of the ps3...is it wireless?

yes but reception drops out badly if router is in different room so best to wire it in

Same here, my router is downstairs about 15 ft across no problems at all with it. Signal strength sometimes goes a bit lower than 50% but never had a problem. Of course if you are able use a wired connection use it, it will be better than a wireless connection.

so, exactly as he described? ;)

Get the PC version, ultra cheap now and infinitely superior.

No, he said it was utter rubbish, which it isn't. He also said it looked awful, yeah I'll give him that. However, he said the controls were awful and they aren't, they control just the same as the PS2 version and they were fine :)

It's sitting right next to me. Unfortunately my lowly 9250 Radeon can just about cope with it on everything switched to minimum. Waste of time!

I have played the following PS2 games without major issues:
- Gran Turismo 4 (only the intro movie is bad but the game is fine)
- Final Fantasy XII (No issue at all, not even the cutscenes)
- Burnout Dominator (hang once during startup but that's it)

The games look quite good upscaled to 1080p on my 40W2000 but obviously don't expect miracles, they are still PS2 games.
