Getting RAM from 1600MHz to 1866Mhz

Hi all

I am trying to get my GeIL RAM up to its full speed (1866MHz) or maybe slightly higher and cannot get it over 1600MHz.

I got to 1600MHz via the bios, turning the multiplier to x8.

The mobo is the GIGABYTE 880GM-UD2H. Their Web site says:

"(Note 2) To reach DDR3 1800MHz or above, you must install two memory modules and install them in the DDR3_3 and DDR3_4 memory sockets."

My two memory sticks are indeed in sockets 3 and 4.

So, how do I get higher than what I have achieved so far?

Is it to do with the timings?

Any help would be wonderful as this has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now.

Best

After updating Bios on my ASRock Fatyl1ty Pro 990FX last night it was able to read XMP, this was not noted in the changelog, but a new option was available in bios under Ram Timings.

And yes its an AMD Board with a Bulldozer

Overclocking ram is pointless really.

mostly agree, ram speed isn't a big deal most of the time. but it's worth trying to get what you paid for; op is definitely justified. since you would expect ram to work at rated speeds, you wouldn't even need to test the "overclocked" speeds.

edit: didn't see OliverDavis' post... op maybe you want to try flashing bios. xmp should hopefully work

if that doesn't work you could try a tiny voltage bump or changing command rate to 2t, though at this stage i would fully agree with Leeroy123 and say the "overclock" isn't worth it.
