hi, i recently bought G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS) , which is rated at 3-4-4-8 and runs at pc4000. i'm gonna use it later on my new build, but at the moment, i wanna use it on my dad's system until the new one is built. the problem is his motherboard is complete rubbish as its a basic £400 emachines pc. the motherboard only supports pc2100 ram, and as the Rams SPD settings are set beyond that, the pc won't boot with it in. is there anyway i can work around this problem? ive checked the BIOS and there are no advanced options whatsoever which can help, so input would be useful. thanks.

To be honest I am really not sure. In theory it should simply auto clock itself down to run at PC2100 speeds (though I have no idea what timings it would give itself. In fact it could be that it auto underclocks itself to unworkable timings), but as it is not even booting I am wondering if maybe the ram requires more voltage than the emachine can give out. Can you up the DDR voltage?

nah i can't. when ram is underclock generally the voltage required goes down anyway.
its rated at 3-3-3-8, and well, the stuff i had previously was generic and came with the pc, so it shouldnt have a problem to be honest. there are no voltage settings or anything in the bios unfortunately.

heres the motherboard info : get it here

hmm from that info it seems the motherboard can only supply 2.5v =/, anyway of modding this? are there any good bios modding sites about maybe?
