Getting rid of an old sofa.

I have a reasonable condition black 2-3 seater sofa that I no longer want as I now have 2 new leather sofas.
I want rid of the old one and I want rid of it before the weekend is out.
It is too large to fit in a car so I would have to rent a van to get rid of it.
I don't really want to take it to the dump, it seems like a real shame to throw away a sofa like that into a landfill, however it just is not big enough for our expanding family anymore.

Does anyone know of any more environmentally friendly methods of getting rid of this than the local dump in the St Albans / Hemel Hempstead area?
 
Put it outside your house, preferebly is some polystyrene packing or cardboard and put a note on it saying "Please do not take our new leather sofa".

Go out for 2 -3 hours and it will be gone :)

A key element of the second part of this focus is to provide a priority service for people in urgent need, who are referred to us by a range of agencies, including Social Services, domestic violence charities and the Community Mental Health Team.

It's in your area although I don't know about the pick up on that one :)
 
Besides the one posted above, your local council may know of local schemes. We have 'community furniture project' around here. I'm getting rid of a mattress tomorrow, but it's too knackered for them to take, so the council are dealing with it.

I think that's what the Paradise Furniture Project is :)

I like the idea of helping your own community :)
 
Place an ad in a local student newspaper saying that there's a good condition couch to be had. Say it's price is whatever you paid for the ad, something like 5 quid. Within hours of publication you'll have sweaty college kids falling over themselves to take it away.

I have a router and I am adequate with it but some additional training won't go amiss. So I'm going ot book a course with them.

It isn't a bad sofa, black, plain, not flouncy in any way, 2-3 seater and about 6-7 years old.
 
I chainsawed my old sofa in 2 after testing my Katanas on it...

took a while to clean up after but it fit in the trailer no problem :D
