Getting rid of AntiSpywareMaster for FREE

I've just spent 3 hours on the phone and trawling the internet to try and get rid of this from a friends system.

I followed all the instructions on the net:

- Stopped the process
- Deleted the .EXEs
- Removed the reg entries
- Removed the Start-Up links

After a reboot it seemed to be clean, but the popups started again a little while later. Spybot S&D failed to get rid of it, and I'm not sure if any of the programs that claim to remove it are part of the scam (like Spyhunter).

This thing really is persistent. Any suggestions?

first see if it has any entries in services.msc, and then run system file checker (sfc.exe /scannow)

If you've already spent 3 hours on it, you may as well just backup documents / files and reload the system.

Concur, there are times when it is just so much quicker to backup and re-install, even with the time consideration of application re-installation too.
