Getting rid of corsair H50... What to replace it with ??

I can understand people risking water with a high end water setup, but I will never understand those that choose a budget water cooling device, manufactured by the lowest bidder that is easily outperformed by numerous air cooling solutions.

Also Corsair are very clear that they will not be held responsible for any damage to your kit arising from leaks.

Each to his/her own of course :)

P.S I recommend the D14/Vx too!

athough im now using a watercooling setup , i used to own the H50 and setup correctly was a nice bit of kit.
also in corsairs defence, ive heard stories of them replacing peeps kit if it was their kit that screwed it.
...dunno if this stance has changed though.

It's interesting you should say that. I have just had a look and it seems Corsair may well have reveresed their position in this area.

I have always like Corsair products and currently have two Corsair PSU's and 3 sets of ram, but was put off the H-50 by Corsair's policy around release time which clearly stated they would not be held liable for damages to other components caused by H50 leaks.

Looking on their forums, the most current case seems to be this one. While it sounds like the process was far from painless it seems the guy got his damaged kit replaced after a month and a half, so kudos to Corsair for stepping up ;)

I agree. I just got over my phobia and gone full cpu watercooling but my H50 before that did a top job.

The A70 is a solid option if you just want to stick with Corsair. Sorry to hear you are not confident in the H50 but, water is not for everyone.

Yellowbeard, may I ask you why the A50 is so expensive for a air cooler? I was expecting the £25-30 price bracket but £42.99 is just daylight robbery!

Fantastic mate. i have one with 2 vipers, If you want to run to fans its worth getting the cable that allows both fans to use the mobo header and run in pwm, then its wisper quite as i have set the fans to only spin up when the cpu core go above 60c (with has only happend on a very hot day running ibt)...

What temps you getting with that cooler may I ask?

Would you say that the following are also too expensive then?

Megahalems - £42.99
Coolermaster V8 - £44.99
Armageddon - £45.99
NH-U12PSE - £54.99
Super Mega - £59.98
NH-D14 - £66.99
TRUE Copper - £68.98

Basically all the high end air coolers are around £40-£50.

Or are you more saying that it's too much for a lower end air cooler?

Corsair are hardly known for cheap tat, are they? And the H50 looks far more compact and elegant, and better for case air flow than the massive heavy beast of an air cooler that will match its performance. Each to his/her own of course :)

Nice to see those pictures of the venom, gives a good idea of the size and nice to see its not blocking any ram slots, hoping to get one of those.

Probably going to get rid of my H50 also, I think the one I have might have a faulty pump or something, when its on I can hear what sounds like a very faint hard drive constantly going, I have a SSD so you can imagine its quite an annoying thing to hear all the time

It is really faint though, probably below what most people would call noticeable, so I'm not sure maybe all the H50 sound like this, and if I was to RMA I'll just get same again
I'm not sure what to do to be honest

The H50 is definitely an elegant design but to me it's more about convenience than anything else. In restricted situations, such as mATX cases, it's an excellent solution. For sheer cooling though, a good air cooler will be better (NH-D14/VX).

Would you call a single fan cooler a high end one?

The Noctua NH-D14 is the best air cooler out at the moment, but its size is a problem for many people, especially with high ram but can be had for £60. The Mega or Venomous X would be my choice if it is too expensive or too big.

Honestly I'm waiting for H70 reviews to come through, 13.3c lower than the H50 in the same case according to the Corsair chart seems too good to be true.

Agreed on this one. Temperature chart here: Core i7 920 processor overclocked to 3.8GHz (20 x 190 MHz, 1.34Vcore)
